Una Cena Cantada
Dinner with live opera singers in downtown Madrid
If there is one word that can describe the feeling of what happens every Saturday night at El Café de la Ópera (c/ Arrieta, 6) it is, without a doubt: Magic! Tenors, sopranos and mezzo-sopranos, accompanied by piano, perform the most famous melodies of opera and zarzuela just a few metres away from the diners, while they explain their origin and the odd curiosity about their creation or composition.
An evening marked by elegance that every Saturday at 8:30 p.m. dresses up in its best clothes to enjoy Una Cena Cantada (A Sung Dinner). And that renews its gastronomic proposal every season, inspired by the most famous operas and zarzuelas. In its new edition, its menu has been inspired by ‘La Zíngarella’ from the famous gypsy chorus of Il trovatore, by Giuseppe Verdi. Possibly the most famous choral piece in the history of opera, it effusively narrates the anvil blows of the Spanish gypsies, singing of their despair at hard work, their solace in good wine and their passion for the gypsy woman.
A unique dinner show that you can enjoy just a few metres from the Teatro Real de la Ópera and the Palacio Real, in the heart of the city centre. With its unique acoustics, it has its own lyrical company, making it the perfect place for a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special moment.
A dinner with a show for everyone (and for the whole family) in an original restaurant with charm that starts with Iberian ham croquettes on potato straws as an appetizer to continue with a seafood cream with prawn tartar and mojito foam. For the main course, there is salmon marinated in miso with a touch of rum and PX reduction with fried yucca cubes, followed by cheeks in a vermouth reduction with potato and sweet potato parmentier. To finish, nothing more exquisite than the creamy Galician cheesecake on red fruit coulis, dark chocolate tile and homemade violet ice cream. Not forgetting the final toast in which all diners are invited to participate and, of course, to sing.
Its great artistic direction offers a kind of interaction between the artist and the diner or spectator that will make constant improvisation and constant and pleasant surprises the secret ingredients that will make dinner at El Café de la Ópera a unique, unrepeatable and inimitable experience. An experience that everyone, whether more or less an admirer or follower of operatic singing, more or less a devotee of signature cuisine – both of which are specialities of the house – should experience, as they say: at least once in a lifetime.
